We Are Listening To… Warpaint!

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Keep your eye on LA’s all-girl rock band, Warpaint. Since the release of their debut album,The Fool, long-time friends Emily, Theresa, Jenny and recently added drummer Stella, the quartet are quickly developing a major following. With all the components of a typical rock band – guitar, drums, bass and vocals – the girls in Warpaint stand out with their chilling harmonies and unpredictable melodies, not to mention their on-stage presence and effortless rockstar style.

Outfitted in casual tees, boots, and vintage dresses, the girls of Warpaint keep their look California-Cool. We are loving the country-chic vibe of the video for their hit single, Undertow, and can see why bands like School of Seven Bells, Band of Horses, Yeasayer, The XX and Beach Fossils have scooped them up to tour. The girls are continuing to earn rave album reviews, and have even made a fan out of Justin Timberlake. You can catch Warpaint on tour, or rock out to their album, available on iTunes.

Kitten is the Cat’s Meow

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

Kitten-heels are hot this season, and so is the debut album, Sunday School, from LA-based pop band Kitten! Although lead singer/songwriter Chloe Chaidez is too young to drive, she and her band are winning over fans everywhere with their high-energy tunes and an emotional honesty that extends beyond most teenage musicians. We are loving this winning combination of electric melodies, classic songwriting, and post punk rock style that has Spin.com calling Kitten, “This year’s best new discovery of SXSW.” Now on tour across the US and Europe, Kitten’s album, Sunday School, is available on iTunes.

Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Fridays

Monday, October 4th, 2010

As part of his G.O.O.D. Fridays initiative, Kanye West has released “Christian Dior Denim Flow,” and we are loving this collaboration with Kid Cudi, Pusha T, John Legend, Lloyd Banks, and Ryan Leslie for a fashion-conscious track that includes shout-outs to over a dozen of the world’s most famous supermodels. Kanye’s weekly series of new music will continue through Christmas, with a new song available as a free download every Friday. “It’s about the fans,” West tweeted, “No more holding back.” Kanye’s famed Tweets sparked his surprising relationship with teen sensation Justin Bieber, whose track, “Runaway Love” Kanye remixed in collaboration with Raekwon. Kanye’s fifth studio album, Dark Twisted Fantasy, is due out November 16th and we can’t wait to hear what the stylish music mogul has up his sleeve next!

Michael Jackson in “American Jesus”

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Photographer David LaChapelle displays his newest collection of works at Paul Kasmin Gallery in the Chelsea art district of New York City. His series titled “American Jesus” features photographs set in a biblical theme, with Michael Jackson as a martyr. Through the decades of his musical career, the media’s obsession with Jackson elevated him to an unrivaled level of fame. LaChapelle, whose works often combine art historical references with contemporary pop culture, presents a commentary on the King of Pop’s life, and his subsequent death, as he is presents Jackson in this spiritual theater. Visit Paul Kasmin Gallery in NYC or check out www.paulkasmingallery.com for more on LaChapelle’s photographic process. We are loving this tribute to one of music, pop culture, and fashion’s most iconic legends.
